Time Person of the Year 2025 Favorites
Donald Trump (-125)
Trump sits as the betting favorite, but would Time select him as Person of the Year two years in a row? If they wanted to curry favor with his administration (or avoid hearing him gripe about not being selected) perhaps they would, but oddsmakers making him the betting favorite here is probably more about how much oxygen he takes up in American and worldwide discourse and less about if he’d be named again.
Elon Musk (+250)
Musk has already been named Time Person of the Year before, in 2021. Back then the focus was on his work with SpaceX and Tesla, and he was a less controversial figure as he had not yet become Trump’s de facto second-in-charge. Musk certainly has the money and the social media reach to push himself into any conversation, and he’s now started dabbling in the affairs of countries outside the United States.
Other 2025 Time Person of the Year favorites on the board at FanDuel Canada include Rogan (+750), newly-elected United States Vice President (and author) JD Vance (+1100), and Powell (+1300).
Time Person of the Year 2025 contenders
Xi Jinping (+650)
The 71-year-old leader of China has been in power for over a decade, and will be tangling with a Trump-led White House for the second time in his political career in 2025. World leaders are always prime candidates for Time Person of the Year, and a leader of China has not been selected since Deng Xiaoping in both 1978 and 1985. With China’s influence on world affairs, Xi will almost certainly be in the running.
Artificial Intelligence (+850)
The FanDuel odds board notes that Artificial Intelligence here includes ChatGPT, everyone’s new favorite way to pretend they wrote something (not this article though of course). The benefits – and dangers – of AI have been front and centre in every discussion of business and technology over the past year, and that’s only going to increase in 2025. Let’s just hope Cyberdyne Systems .
Kate Middleton (+1000)
Middleton’s cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment captured headlines both in the UK and around the world in 2024, putting her on the Person of the Year shortlist. If Middleton returns to the spotlight this year – especially in an advocacy role – she could be a strong choice for the 2025 honor.
Other 2025 Time Person of the Year contenders include King Charles III (+1400), Pope Francis (+2100), and Li Qiang (+3200), the second-ranked member of China’s powerful Politburo Standing Committee.
2025 Time Person of the Year underdogs
Taylor Swift (+1600)
Swift was previously named the , a rare feat for someone in the arts, based on the massive success of her Eras Tour around the world and her continued domination of the music charts. With the Eras Tour now over, though, Swift could have a quiet (by her standards) year ahead.
Jeff Bezos (+1700)
Bezos, like his rival Musk, keeps himself in the spotlight through multiple business ventures, most notably Amazon and Blue Origin, and his wealth allows him to yield influence on government. Getting named as Person of the Year by a media organization, however, might be tough for Bezos in 2025, as his ownership of The Washington Post has now resulted in multiple times.
Other 2025 Time Person of the Year underdogs include California governor and potential 2028 United States presidential contender Gavin Newsom (+1900) plus Zuckerberg (+1900) and fellow billionaire Mark Cuban (+2500), who has most recently turned his attention to his Cost Plus Drugs venture.
2025 Time Person of the Year long shots
Beyonce (+4400)
Having dazzled in a in her hometown of Houston, Beyonce reminded everyone that there was music spectacle beyond the Eras Tour. Never count Beyonce out of anything.
Caitlin Clark (+9500)
Clark was named the 2024 Time Athlete of the Year after she had big success as a WNBA rookie with the Indiana Fever and was credited in large part to a surge in interest in that league (and in women’s sports in general). What will Clark do for an encore in 2025 to increase her overall reach and her star power?
Other 2025 Time Person of the Year longshots on the list include Avatar director and film innovator James Cameron (+4900), NBA legend LeBron James (+6000), and music superstar Elton John (+7500).
2025 Time Person of the Year Betting Pick
The oddsmakers at FanDuel Canada might be on to something by including Artificial Intelligence amongst their top contenders for 2025 Time Person of the Year. Several times in recent years it’s been a group or a concept that’s been given the Person of the Year honor, including The Guardians in 2018 (journalists who faced persecution), The Silence Breakers in 2017 (the #MeToo movement), Ebola Fighters in 2014 (health care workers), and The Protestor in 2011 (various grassroots protestors from around the world).
Plus, with the way tech is going it could end up being Artificial Intelligence itself that selects the Time Person of the Year for 2025, and who do you think would be its choice? All hail our digital overlords.
