They say revenge is best served cold.

Well, the Dallas Stars have had over a month to stew over the 6-2 defeat they suffered the last time they played the Chicago Blackhawks. Dallas hasn't found its groove since that embarrassing loss, going 7-5-1 and 2-2-0 on the road.

Peter DeBoer will hope the Christmas break was enough to offer the fresh lease on life his team needs, as their 11th-worst road points percentage (.467) is far below expectations and what their third-best Stanley Cup odds indicate.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks were abysmal in their first game back, losing 6-2 at the Buffalo Sabres. They'll hope the United Center on Sunday (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) provides the safe haven it has in the last three games.

Our Stars vs. Blackhawks prediction expects Dallas to exact revenge for that lopsided defeat just over a month ago.

The Stars have won two of three against the Blackhawks this season, both at home and by two goals. Dallas played well in Minnesota in its first game after the Christmas break but lost in overtime despite having the expected goals advantage and carrying more of the play.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks have lost three in a row and were embarrassed on Friday by the Sabres, who recently ended a 13-game losing skid. Yes, the Blackhawks are a much better team at the United Center, where they've won the last three games. That said, it's hard to flick a switch in the middle of a losing run, no matter where the contest is.

Plus, the Stars will be desperate to put the record straight after their woeful performance in Chicago a month ago.

I expect the Stars to grind out a low-scoring win, possibly clinching a two-goal victory on an empty-netter. I don't think it will be a blowout; such is the quality Chicago has shown recently on home ice.

The Stars haven't impressed anyone on their travels, and it's time for this team to finally showcase its quality. This game represents a golden opportunity to get things going on the road, especially as it's just their second in enemy rinks in the last nine.

A winning $10 bet will profit $10.50.

Stars vs. Blackhawks player prop pick

NHL picks made Monday; odds subject to change.

Jamie Benn prop pick: Over 0.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +140 via Betway | Implied probability: 41.67%

Jamie Benn notched a helper in six of the last eight games, including in Minnesota on Friday. The Stars' captain is one of the only reliable producers offensively right now, and he's starting to heat up.

He has 15 helpers in 34 games this season, nine of which in the last 15.  If this team is to go on a run, Benn must find a way to inspire through his on-ice actions. He also has an assist in the last two games against the Blackhawks. A winning $10 bet will profit $14.
