The Detroit Red Wings (6-7-1) and Pittsburgh Penguins (6-9-2) have a few unenviable things in common entering Wednesday's game at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh (7:30 p.m. ET, TNT).

Both teams are in second-last place in their respective divisions and suffered lopsided home defeats in the previous game. The Penguins waddled away from PPG Paints Arena after being humiliated 7-1 by the Dallas Stars, while the Red Wings fell 4-0 to the New York Rangers.

While neither team will be mistaken for a Stanley Cup odds hopeful, they'll have their sights set on pushing for playoff positioning. Our Red Wings vs. Penguins prediction finds value in Pittsburgh's goal total while offering Sidney Crosby and Lucas Raymond prop picks.

The Penguins have scored more than three goals in one of the last 12 games. That outlier came in a 4-2 win against the Washington Capitals on Nov. 8, with the fourth goal scored into an empty net.

They score the 13th-fewest goals per game (2.76) but the fourth-fewest on home ice (2.29). Those offensive struggles should be compounded when they face Cam Talbot, who will get the nod after being rested against the Rangers.

Talbot has allowed four goals in his last three starts and hasn't let more than three past him in eight games this season. He has a 2.40 goals-against average, a .926 save percentage, and 6.1 goals saved above expected, tied for sixth best with Anthony Stolarz.

Overall, Detroit allows the sixth-fewest goals per game on its travels (2.5) and the eighth-fewest goals against per 60 minutes 5-on-5 overall (1.98).

A winning $10 bet will profit $8.

Red Wings vs. Penguins player prop bet

NHL picks made Wednesday; odds subject to change.

Sidney Crosby prop bet: Anytime goal ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +150 via Betway | Implied probability: 40%

must be seething after being humiliated by the Stars on Monday. While I don't expect the Pens to score in bundles, I wouldn't be surprised to see Crosby get on the scoresheet. He'll lead by example for the umpteenth time in his career, demonstrating to his team that Monday's 7-1 defeat was nowhere near good enough.

Crosby hasn't scored in three games but netted five in the previous three. And he has four goals in his last four tilts against the Red Wings. A winning $10 bet will yield a $15 profit.

Lucas Raymond prop bet: Over 0.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +110 via Betway | Implied probability: 47.62%

has an assist in six of the last eight games, including four of the previous five. His four-game assist streak was broken when the Rangers shut out his team on Saturday. He should get multiple chances to add to his 12 assists against a subpar Pens' defense.

A winning $10 bet will profit $11.
