The surging Toronto Maple Leafs look to beat the Philadelphia Flyers for the second time in three days when the teams meet tonight at Wells Fargo Center (7:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet).

The Leafs needed to work overtime to beat the Flyers 3-2 Sunday in Toronto, but our Maple Leafs vs. Flyers prediction anticipates a more comfortable Toronto victory during the rematch. We also like forward Matthew Knies to continue his strong play on the Leafs’ top line alongside Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.

The Maple Leafs enter the matchup sitting eighth in the Stanley Cup odds.

The Maple Leafs might be playing their best hockey of the season right now while riding a four-game winning streak into tonight’s matchup. They’ve also won four straight on the road while outscoring their opposition 18-9 during that stretch.

Meanwhile, the Flyers are in an awkward situational spot while playing their first home game in nearly three weeks. Philadelphia went 2-3-1 during a six-game road trip that included four games out west before ending with Sunday’s overtime loss in Toronto.

Leafs show they can defend without McCabe

We're getting a discounted price on the Maple Leafs tonight because of Sunday’s injury to shutdown defenseman Jake McCabe, who hit his head during a fight with Garnet Hathaway. However, Toronto showed Sunday that it can still tighten the clamps without McCabe, allowing just one goal and 18 shots to the Flyers after he left the game in the first period.

If anything, the McCabe injury could provide some added motivation for the Leafs to beat the Flyers for the 10th time in their last 11 meetings.

Toronto also enjoys a huge edge in net. Top Leafs netminder Joseph Woll will return to the crease to face the unproven Ivan Fedotov.

Flyers have already suffered 15 multi-goal losses

Betway is also offering a +110 return on the Leafs to win in regulation, but I’d rather take a chance at a better price on Toronto notching a multi-goal win.

Currently, 18 of the Leafs’ 26 victories this season have been of the multi-goal variety, while Philly has suffered 15 of its 18 regulation-time defeats in the same way.

Maple Leafs vs. Flyers player prop pick

NHL picks made Tuesday; odds subject to change.

Matthew Knies Goals: Over 0.5 ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +250 via Betway | Implied probability: 28.6%

No one has benefitted more from Auston Matthews’ recent return to the lineup than Knies.

Skating on Toronto’s top line with Matthews and Mitch Marner, Knies snapped a 10-game scoring drought Saturday with his first career hat trick, and then he added another goal Sunday.

Knies has also been shooting the puck more lately, firing 15 shots on target in his last four games after managing just 16 in the forward's first 14 outings during December. He should enjoy several good looks once again tonight alongside Matthews and Marner, especially against a Flyers squad allowing 3.55 goals per game on the season.

Elsewhere, our Gary Pearson is also eyeing Matthews to score in his NHL player props and anytime goal scorer picks for tonight.
