Golden Knights vs. Capitals Picks, Predictions: Can Eichel Lead Scoring Onslaught?
Last Updated: January 1, 0001 12:00 AM EST • 2 min 38 sec read.
The Vegas Golden Knights are on a four-game win streak and will kick off a five-game road trip in Washington DC against the Capitals. Here are our picks for Tuesday night’s game between the Golden Knights and Capitals.
The Golden Knights are a powerhouse so far this season. They’re 8-2-0, and their only two losses were both one-goal games against two equally strong teams in the Calgary Flames and the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.
The Capitals have been bringing it on offense, as expected, but their defense and goaltending have been weaknesses. Their game on Monday was a hard-fought battle that led to a shootout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. Now they’re right back at it against one of the hottest teams in the league.
Here are my NHL picks and predictions for Tuesday night’s game between the Golden Knights and Capitals (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook, BetMGM, and DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5 scale).

Golden Knights vs. Capitals ML Pick
Golden Knights (-120) ★★★
The Golden Knights are at the top of the league, second only to the Boston Bruins by points percentage. Their offense might not typically be a particularly high-scoring group, but we've seen multiple instances this season of what happens when they can get by defenses with ease. The Golden Knights tallied five goals against the Seattle Kraken and Winnipeg Jets.
The Golden Knights themselves have one of the best bluelines in the league. They're well above the league average in nearly all defensive stats except for a lackluster 78.3% penalty-kill rate.
The Caps are strong on the penalty kill (81.82%), but at five-on-five play, they allow an average of 2.90 goals per game. They're also projected to have backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren in net. He's played only two games so far this season, and as we know with the Golden Knights, all they need is three goals to secure the win.
Additionally, the Golden Knights are rested and ready to go. The Capitals not only are on the second half of a back-to-back, they took on another top team in the Hurricanes on Monday and took the game all the way to a shootout. They’re hardly anything but rested and refreshed right about now, whereas Vegas was off on Monday.
Golden Knights vs. Capitals O/U Pick
Over 6.5 (+100) ★★
The Golden Knights cashed the Under in each of their last five games while the Capitals hit the Over in four of their last five home games.
With two very different teams, I’m taking the Over at even money. The Capitals are a high-scoring team and while Vegas has a strong defense, Washington relies heavily on its stars to get the puck to the back of the net to win games. If the Capitals are going to compete with Vegas, they’re going to need to find ways to score.
Golden Knights vs. Capitals Prop Pick
Eichel anytime goalscorer (+150) ★★
Golden Knights center Jack Eichel has scored four times through 10 games, but it feels as if all four have been must-watch highlight-reel-worthy goals.
Eichel scored in Vegas’s last game against Winnipeg, and with Lindgren likely getting the start for just his third game all season with the Capitals on a back-to-back, it sets up as another plus-matchup. He's also registered at least three shots on goal in each of his last six games.
