Bruins vs. Rangers Picks, Predictions: Backing The Underdog in Low-Scoring Affair
Last Updated: November 3, 2022 10:00 AM EDT • 2 min 15 sec read.
The Boston Bruins head to Madison Square Garden on a six-game winning streak. Will the New York Rangers hand the Bruins their second loss of the year? Here’s our picks for Thursday night’s game between the Bruins and Rangers.
The Bruins are the hottest team in the NHL. Even with injuries, they’ve found a way to win in every game, including a hard-fought battle Tuesday night vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins to erase a three-goal deficit.
The Rangers, another Cup-contending team, seem to be still finding their footing as they wait for some key offensive contributors to break out. Still, led by Vezina winner Igor Shesterkin in goal and Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin on offense, they’ll look for their fourth win in a row.
Here are my NHL picks and predictions for Thursday night’s game between the Bruins and Rangers (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook, BetMGM, and DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5 scale).

Bruins vs. Rangers ML Pick
Bruins (+115) ★★★
Rarely do you see the top team in the league - in the midst of a six-game winning streak - listed as an “underdog." I have to jump on that value.
The Bruins are a resilient bunch who keep finding ways to win even without some of their top players. After their comeback victory in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night, they lost both goaltender Jeremy Swayman and top defenseman Derek Forbort to injuries. Swayman wasn’t originally meant to play in Pittsburgh, but a tough start from Linus Ullmark led to his exit.
Even with the rough start, Ullmark still remains 7-0-0 with a .932 save percentage. Ullmark will start again Thursday vs. the Rangers, and after his first bad start of the season, I expect a big bounce-back game.
The Bruins are first in the league in goals per game at 4.40. They’re 10th in the league on the power play and first on the penalty kill. While their penalty kill and overall defense definitely take a hit without Forbort, they seem to always find a way.
As I mentioned, the Rangers are starting to find their groove. The odds of Chris Kreider, Alexis Lafreniere, and Kappo Kakko breaking out against the Bruins, though, are slim.
Bruins vs. Rangers O/U Pick
Under 6 (-110) ★★★
With Ullmark coming off a poor start in his most recent game, I expect a big night from him on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Shesterkin’s numbers aren’t what we've become accustomed to, but he still continues to give his team a chance to win every time he’s in the net.
Goaltending plays, so I’m taking the Under.
Bruins vs. Rangers Prop Pick
Hall Over 0.5 assists (+185) ★★
Taylor Hall is just one of many Bruins who’s been buzzing on the ice lately. Hall’s playing some of the best hockey of his career. Surprisingly, he has more goals than assists so far.
Hall definitely has that playmaker ability in him, and I think we’re going to be seeing more assists out of him when considering his linemates.
