Top Picks to Win the Super Bowl: NFC Teams Could Provide Big Returns
Last Updated: September 15, 2022 9:16 AM EDT • 2 min 36 sec read.
The Los Angeles Rams were listed as +1200 to win the Super Bowl in the preseason last year. Read on for our three best picks to win Super Bowl LVII.
The AFC is arguably the much more loaded conference this season, which means it should be the more unpredictable of the two, especially come playoff time. That is why we have identified two NFC teams of our three best bets to win the Super Bowl, even though they might likely be underdogs to the AFC representative if they got there.
If we eliminate the Los Angeles Rams, as no team has repeated as Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004, what other teams provide good value?
Here are my three top picks to win the 2022 Super Bowl (odds via Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook).

Chiefs (+1100)
If quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads the Kansas City Chiefs to the AFC Championship, he will tie Ken Stabler for the second-most consecutive seasons (five) reaching the conference championship round. Kansas City’s biggest Achilles heel last year was its porous run defense. The Chiefs ranked dead-last in run-stop win rate (27%), 31st in yards per rush allowed (4.8), and 30th in first-down percentage (29%), per Next Gen Stats.
Kansas City added veterans Justin Reid and Carlos Dunlap to combat that issue while also drafting cornerback Trent McDuffie and defensive end George Karlaftis. And if you are worried about what Kansas City’s offense will look like without Tyreek Hill, its impressive preseason results with Mahomes on the field should quell those concerns.
Kansas City would have been playing for another Super Bowl title if it did not squander an early 21-3 lead against Cincinnati. The Chiefs are flying somewhat under the radar after losing Hill, but as long as they have Andy Reid coaching Patrick Mahomes, they will win plenty of games.
Packers (+1200)
Like the Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers lost a star wide receiver and are not even considered the favorite to win their conference, even though they went 13-4 last season. Davante Adams had 170 targets last year, while no other Packer had more than 65. However, it is still a veteran group led by Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb, and Allen Lazard. And after Rodgers called out the young wide receivers before the preseason finale, they responded with 15 catches for 168 yards.
Rodgers has won the last two MVP awards, with his latest coming after a 4,115-yard and 37-touchdown season. One should not worry about how Green Bay’s offense will look, as Rodgers knows how to develop receivers.
The Packers have an excellent defense, and an improved running game with the two-headed monster of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon should help take the pressure off Rodgers and the young receivers in cold weather games in January. Do not write this team off.
Saints (+4000)
The New Orleans Saints are the perfect longshot play, as they come from the weaker of the two conferences but have an outstanding chance of winning their division.
Quarterback Jameis Winston looked solid, going 4-for-4 for 59 yards and leading the team to a touchdown drive in his only preseason action. If he remains healthy, last season’s pre-injury performance should have New Orleans fans optimistic. In Weeks 1 through 8 last season, Winston ranked first among all quarterbacks in touchdowns per attempt (8.7%), tied for seventh in TD-INT ratio (14-3), and was seventh in total QBR (64). He should have a healthy Michael Thomas back after missing last season with an ankle injury, and the team also added Chris Olave through the draft and Jarvis Landry through free agency.
New Orleans, by many accounts, has a top-five roster in the league, making its +4000 to win the Super Bowl awfully enticing.
