The Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears will look to end losing streaks when they meet in the post-Christmas edition of Thursday Night Football in Week 17.

  • Seattle’s loss to Minnesota last week was its sixth in its last seven home games
  • The Seahawks would be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss and a Rams win
  • Chicago is amid its second losing streak of nine or more games in franchise history

Chicago is relegated to the role of spoiler after a nine-game losing streak has had it eliminated from playoff contention for quite some time. Seattle has a potential game for the NFC West title against Los Angeles looming next week, so this sets up as a tricky trap spot on a short week on the road.

I do not trust Geno Smith at this point, who is still clearly ailing from a knee injury (and has less than a week to recover), as he ran up his interception total to 16 after throwing three more in Week 16.

NFC North teams are now 31-10 straight up against other divisions this year after Minnesota won in Seattle. Entering Week 16, the division’s 30-10 record was the second-best by one division over another since 2002.

Granted, Chicago is the lone non-contender from the NFC North. But the Bears will likely get plenty of moneyline support if the spread ticks down to a field goal or lower, as bettors would be less inclined to back them on the point spread if that happened.

Spread

DraftKings was the only one of the best sportsbooks where Seattle opened laying the key number of three points. This spread is more likely to move to +3 than it would to go the other way to +4.

Geno Smith is 3-6 SU and 2-7 against the spread at home this year, as opposed to 5-1 SU and 4-1-1 ATS in road games. However, the Seahawks have not been favored in any game since Week 5, so I do not envision many bettors being enamored to back them in the favorite role.

Over/Under

The Bears have allowed 30-plus points in three straight games, and 100-plus rushing yards in nine straight for the first time since the 2009 season. That should create interest in the Over, but as with all games at Soldier Field, the weather is worth monitoring. If the threat of rain worsens before kickoff, the total should tick down.
