While the NFL playoffs are just getting started, there's no time like the present to look ahead to the second round, when each conference's top seed enters the fray.

We analyze the NFL playoff look-ahead odds and the hypothetical matchups for the Divisional Round, with a breakdown of the betting lines. This includes odds for the AFC and NFC No. 1 seeds, the Super Bowl odds favorites, the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions.

The look-ahead second-round spreads tell the story of the favorites at our best NFL betting sites. The biggest takeaway is that sportsbooks aren't reading much into Patrick Mahomes' so-called struggles this season, with the Chiefs listed as significant favorites against any potential opponent.

Forget sparks, if Baltimore and Buffalo meet in the Divisional Round, fireworks will fly. This hypothetical matchup features NFL MVP odds favorites Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, and as a result, one of the highest look-ahead totals.

Oddsmakers are giving the slight edge to the AFC's No. 2 seed at home but by an incredibly slim margin.

Texans vs. Chiefs odds

The Texans have lost their last three trips to Arrowhead Stadium by an average of 14 points. The most recent, a 27-19 Kansas City victory, was the closest of the trio, which explains this line (Chiefs -7.5).

Houston is a better team than perhaps some are giving them credit for on the betting market, but they're also banged up on both sides of the ball. As such, this would be an ideal matchup for Mahomes and his men to kick off their postseason campaign.

Detroit took all of the excitement out of Week 18's Sunday Night Football matchup early when it ran away with the game - and subsequently, the division. However, the 31-9 scoreline isn't indicative of how these teams stack up against each other.

The Lions have won both meetings this season, by two and 22 points. NFL odds suggest this line would be closer to the former if these NFC North rivals meet again in the playoffs.

Buccaneers vs. Eagles odds

The Philadelphia Eagles have been stellar this season, and if they can get by Green Bay in the first round, they'll solidify their place among the NFC's top contenders. However, this is one scenario they'd like to avoid. Todd Bowles and Co. have caused troubles for Philadelphia recently.

The Buccaneers went 2-0 against the Eagles in 2024, outscoring them 65-25. If this matchup is confirmed, you can bet Tampa Bay (+5.5) will be a public bettors' dream play in the Divisional Round.

It seems like forever and a day ago, but Los Angeles gave Detroit quite a scare in Week 1. The Rams outscored the Lions 10-3 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but were bullied by David Montgomery in the extra period.

It's one of NFL fans' favorite matchups, given each quarterback's connections with the franchises. Jared Goff is 2-1 against his former team, with those three games being decided by 16 total points. Our best sports betting apps list the Lions as 6.5-point favorites should they meet again in the playoffs.

Minnesota and Philadelphia have been two of the NFC's most consistent teams this season on both sides of the ball. Their combined 28-6 record reflects this fact, and all it would take is one upset in Tampa to put them on a Divisional Round collision course.

Oddsmakers favor the Eagles by a field goal at home in this hypothetical tilt.

Los Angeles can book a trip to Philadelphia with a win over Minnesota. The Eagles and Rams met in November at SoFi Stadium, and Saquon Barkley stole the show. The NFL MVP odds candidate tallied 26 carries for 255 yards and two touchdowns as he lifted the visitors to a 37-20 victory.

Thus, it's no surprise to see Philadelphia listed as a hefty home favorite (-6.5) in a potential rematch.

While Green Bay's 1-5 record against the NFC North isn't what Matt LaFleur and Co. had hoped for this year, it's not all bad news.

The Packers played Detroit closer than many teams, as just 13 points separated the sides in their two meetings. FanDuel lists Green Bay as just a 4.5-point underdog in the Divisional Round if Jordan Love and Co. prevail in Philadelphia.

How do the NFL playoffs work?

Since 2020, the NFL has featured an expanded playoff field of 14 teams - seven in each conference - eliminating the bye week for the No. 2 seed and extending wild-card weekend to six games spanning from Saturday to Monday.

The No. 1 seed in each conference will still enjoy a bye week in the first round of the playoffs, while the remaining three division winners will host the three wild-card teams with the highest seeds facing the lowest seeds (No. 2 vs. No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 6, No. 4 vs. No. 5).

The winners of those games will advance to the divisional round, where the highest remaining seeds wiill face the lowest seeds. So the No. 1 seed will face the worst-seeded team - which is always the No. 4 seed or worse - while the remaining two teams will meet in the other divisional round matchup.

The two winners in each conference will then meet in the AFC Championship and NFC Championship, which are both played on Championship Sunday, and the respective conference winners will meet two weeks later in the Super Bowl.
