The Detroit Lions will look to complete the season sweep of the Green Bay Packers when they meet on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 14.

When these two teams squared off earlier this season at Lambeau Field, the Lions defeated the Packers 24-14. Because of that final score, it may be surprising to see the Lions favored by only 3.5 points based on the Packers vs. Lions early picks and odds.

That's partly because Detroit placed LB Malcolm Rodriguez and DL Mekhi Wingo on injured reserve this week, further depleting an already beat-up defense. Defensive injuries nearly allowed the Chicago Bears to rally and beat the Lions last week.

Can Jordan Love take advantage when the action from Ford Field gets underway at 8:15 p.m. ET (Prime Video)?

We'll dive into this game and so much more as part of our NFL Week 14 predictions. We have a mid-week update with our Packers vs. Lions prediction.

I don’t want to overreact to last week’s performance, but the Lions looked horrible in the second half. They were outscored 20-7 as Bears QB Caleb Williams carved up the defense.

But perhaps even more alarming was the red zone performance of the offense. They went just 2-of-5 in the game, which is what kept the Bears in contention in first place.

Meanwhile, the Packers have dominated back-to-back games, outscoring their opponents 68-27. Love hasn’t thrown a pick in either of those games after throwing one in his first eight games of the year. If he can continue to play clean football, the Packers could win this game.

After all, it was his pick-six in the first game against the Lions that ended the Packers’ chances of winning.

This game will ultimately come down to whether either team can run the ball. Both defenses rank in the top eight in the league in run defense, but they both gave up over 120 yards in the first meeting on a sloppy field.

In a controlled environment, I think the Lions have the advantage in the running game, but Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been great of late and will keep the Packers within a field goal.

We've highlighted the other side of this spread as part of our NFL against the spread picks for Week 14.

Moneyline

  • Lions best odds: -166 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 62.41%
  • Packers best odds: +160 via bet365 | Implied probability: 38.46%

Based on how the Lions finished Thanksgiving, I think the Packers will be a very popular upset pick this week. It’s too early to know where public support stands, but getting this at +160 is enticing.

However, some of our best sports betting apps already have the Packers’ moneyline set below +145. Though this game is being played in Detroit, support for Green Bay should be high enough to eventually get most sportsbooks down around that number. If you’re on the Packers, get in now. If you’re on the Lions, wait.

Spread

  • Lions best odds: -3.5 (-102) via DraftKings
  • Packers best odds: +3.5 (-115) via BetMGM

The Lions briefly opened as 5.5-point favorites, but after another string of defensive injuries, the spread has dropped to 3.5.

While that number hasn’t moved since, the price has been moving in favor of the Packers. Our sites with the best sportsbook promos currently give the edge to the Packers covering this spread, which suggests that this will drop to three points before long. However, I do think that bettors will back the Lions once the spread gets to the key number, and this spread will ultimately land at 3.5 at kickoff.

Over/Under

  • Over best odds: 51 (-110) via bet365
  • Under best odds: 51.5 (-110) via BetMGM

In their first meeting, these two teams combined for only 38 points. However, that game featured heavy winds and rain.

Thursday’s game will be played at Ford Field, and both of these offenses have been great this season. The Lions have scored at least 20 points in every game since Week 2, and the Packers have scored 30 in back-to-back contests. Look for this number to climb throughout the week.
