Even after playing just one snap in Week 18, Josh Allen remains the favorite by the NFL MVP odds over reigning winner Lamar Jackson after the final week of the regular season.

Allen did enough over the first 17 weeks to earn the respect of our best NFL betting sites after leading the Buffalo Bills to 13 wins and the No. 2 seed in the AFC ahead of the NFL playoffs next week.

Yet Jackson has been on a tear to close the regular season, leading the Baltimore Ravens to an AFC North title and one of the top spots in the latest Super Bowl odds as he tries to become the fourth back-to-back MVP winner in the last 25 years.

Don't fully count out Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow, who, despite falling just short, made one last-ditch effort on Saturday to preserve his team's playoff chance.

Josh Allen MVP odds (-230)

2024 stats: 3,731 passing yards, 28 TDs, 6 INTs (531 rushing yards, 12 TDs)

Allen didn't do anything to help his MVP case this week as the Bills rested their star QB in Week 18 (aside from one snap) with nothing at stake in an eventual 23-16 loss to the New England Patriots. But he's already put together one heck of a resume to this point.

As we broke down last week in our Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson MVP comparison, Allen has been the leading force for some of the biggest wins and signature moments of this NFL season, and he's done so with stellar efficiency as a passer and rusher.

His statistical case on paper still pales compared to Jackson's - both in traditional and advanced metrics. Still, the narrative is firmly on his side even as he watched from the sidelines in the final week of the regular season.

Lamar Jackson MVP odds (+185)

2024 stats: 4,172 passing yards, 41 TDs, 4 INTs (915 rushing yards, 4 TDs)

The reigning MVP had one final shot on Saturday to bolster his repeat bid, and while his odds technically shortened, he didn't do much to help his case with 217 yards and two TDs while completing just 50% of his passes in a 35-10 win over the Cleveland Browns.

With that being the final impression for persuadable voters, it might not be enough to overtake Allen even with the latter taking a seat in Week 18. That wouldn't be our perspective - Jackson has been the better passer all season long with more explosive runs, to boot - but it seems the MVP narrative has been fully baked by now.

Still, with the Ravens star catching plus-money odds in what should be a 50/50 race at best, there are worse bets to make as we look ahead to the postseason.

Joe Burrow MVP odds (+1400)

2024 stats: 4,918 passing yards, 43 TDs, 9 INTs (201 rushing yards, 2 TDs)

Burrow needed a miracle in Week 18 to help the Bengals make the playoffs and ultimately breathe life into his moribund MVP case.

He checked the first box on Saturday, leading Cincinnati to a 19-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, but a win by the Denver Broncos rendered that moot. And his final stat line - 277 yards with a touchdown and interception - didn't exactly scream "MVP" in the way that his epic showing in Week 17 did.

If Burrow enjoyed a better defense or kicking game from his teammates this season, he might very well be the MVP after throwing for nearly 5,000 yards with 43 touchdowns. But Cincy's early struggles will likely leave Burrow's career year as a mere footnote.

Saquon Barkley MVP odds (+6000)

2024 stats: 345 carries, 2,005 rushing yards, 13 TDs (33 receptions, 278 yards, 2 TDs)

Barkley didn't play in the Eagles' 20-13 win over the New York Giants in Week 18. It's a shame, too, because he needed only 100 yards to tie Eric Dickerson's all-time single-season rushing record - albeit in one more game than the Hall of Fame back had.

That's likely what it would have taken for Barkley to have a real shot in this race, even as he became one of nine players to ever crack the 2,000-yard mark. Barkley scampered for more than 125 yards per game in his debut season with Philly and was a key reason why the Eagles Super Bowl odds are among the shortest in the league.

Alas, we'll have to wait another year (or decade, or century) for a running back to reclaim the MVP award, though Barkley appears to be a lock to cash his NFL Offensive Player of the Year odds after a record-setting campaign.
