Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin raised more than a few eyebrows last week by changing starting quarterbacks following his team’s 4-2 start. However, Tomlin ended up looking like a genius as the Steelers crushed the New York Jets 37-15 as underdogs in Russell Wilson’s Pittsburgh debut.

Judging by many Giants vs. Steelers early picks and odds and the Monday Night Football odds, Wilson and company are expected to deliver a strong encore performance against the New York Giants. New York is coming off an ugly 28-3 loss last week to the Philadelphia Eagles, which dropped the G-Men into the NFC East basement at 2-5.

Pittsburgh put up a season-high 37 points last week in Wilson’s debut in black and gold. However, two of the Steelers’ touchdown drives were on short fields following interception returns, and another came in the dying seconds with the game out of reach.

If the line closes at six or higher, this will mark just the second time that Pittsburgh has laid a touchdown or more since 2021. The Steelers’ hallmark recipe of defense and running game doesn’t usually lead to success as big chalk, evidenced by the fact Pittsburgh is 0-6 ATS in its last six games as a 6-point favorite or more dating back to 2020 (losing three of those games outright).

Backing the Giants may feel like a leap of faith right now. But before last week’s ugly performance against Philadelphia, New York was 2-3 straight up in its previous five, with those losses coming in hard-fought fashion versus the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders. I’ll plug my nose and bet on a bounce-back performance by a Giants squad that was embarrassed last week at home.

  • Steelers best odds: -250 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 71.43%
  • Giants best odds: +240 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 29.41%

After the Giants lost by 25 to the Eagles and the Steelers won by 22 over the Jets, it wasn’t hard to see how this line would move. FanDuel opened Pittsburgh at -198 on the moneyline last Wednesday, according to the Week 8 odds, before the Steelers steamed as high as -330 favorites. Steelers bettors can still grab a -250 moneyline price on Pittsburgh at Caesars, while Giants backers’ best price is +240 at FanDuel.

Spread

  • Steelers best odds: -6 (-105) via Caesars
  • Giants best odds: +6.5 (-115) via Hard Rock

Even after opening with one of the lowest totals of the NFL season, books got hit with early Under money, causing the total to drop to 36.5 across the board by Monday night. FanDuel and Hard Rock even shaded the juice on the 36.5 towards the Under, providing Over bettors with the chance to lay just -105.
