Anytime Touchdown Scorer Predictions & Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 8: Vikings vs. Rams

Vikings anytime touchdown scorer pick: Johnny Mundt, TE ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds:  | Implied probability: 17.86%

The Rams have been quite bad at defending tight ends for several seasons.

Though Raheem Morris has moved on to be the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons (who are also poor at defending the position), Chris Shula has fared little better through seven weeks.

L.A. has allowed three touchdowns to the position - one back of the worst mark in the league shared by four teams who've all played one more game than the Rams. The Rams' 10.44 yards per target is the worst rate allowed, while their 84.6% catch rate given up is third worst.

There's some expectation that Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will return to play Thursday. But with the Vikings listed as 3-point road favorites and with eyes on the NFC championship, I have my doubts. I'm jumping on these +460 odds for Mundt's second touchdown of the season ahead of time. 

A winning $10 bet at FanDuel would return a profit of $46. The same bet made on the +370 odds at another of our NFL prop betting sites would see a reduced return of $37.

Rams anytime touchdown scorer pick: Cooper Kupp, WR ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds:  | Implied probability: 44.44%

This is a little more conservative than I generally like to be in this column but with DraftKings offering +110 odds for a Kupp touchdown, we'd be silly to not jump on this number to get an extra $1.50 in profit on a winning $10 bet.

Kupp (ankle) is returning to play for the first time since Week 2 while trade rumors swirl ahead of the NFL's Nov. 5 deadline. This could be one final showcase before a deal. As such, expect QB Matthew Stafford to pelt his favorite target.

The former Offensive Player of the Year caught 14 of 21 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown in his lone complete game of the season. That is in a 26-20 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions with an Over/Under of 52.5.

This week's lines are calling for a similarly tight but high-scoring night, and Kupp will be heavily involved in what could be his final game with the Rams.
