Best Timberwolves vs. Lakers prop predictions

Anthony Davis 3-pointers Made: Over 0.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: -110 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 52.38%

This would be a five-star prediction at its original price of +135 when markets opened on Friday, but I still like betting on Lakers big man Anthony Davis to hit a 3-pointer at his current odds via the best sports betting apps.

Under first-year head coach JJ Redick, the Lakers will shoot more 3-pointers. Davis, in particular, should replace his long mid-range jumpers (he took 44 last year) with the long ball.

Davis drilled five 3-pointers in four preseason games. More importantly, he averaged 4.25 attempts per game. This edge will be gone after the opening week, but take advantage of oddsmakers not realizing Davis’ improved shot diet.

Anthony Edwards Steals and Blocks: Over 1.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I love to target defensive player props in marquee matchups because players are likelier to make a concerted effort on that end of the floor. That’s especially true for Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.

Edwards levels up his defensive activity in big games. He cleared this 1.5 steals and blocks combo prop in 12 of his 16 playoff games (75%) last year compared to a 53% hit rate in the regular season. He cleared this mark in seven of his 11 matchups against the Lakers.

Edwards, who is 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, has an apparent size advantage over a smaller Lakers backcourt. Los Angeles can also be careless with the ball. 

I like this Over at -130 or better.

LeBron James Points and Rebounds: Under 31.5⭐⭐⭐⭐

A big reason the Lakers have struggled in openers is that LeBron isn’t usually at his best to start the season. I expect that trend to continue after playing in the Olympics over the summer.

James played three preseason games and never played more than 23 minutes in a contest. He finished with 36 points and 13 rebounds in those three outings and is showing some signs of age (he is 39, after all) entering his 22nd season in the league.

In addition, the Timberwolves had the top-ranked defense last year. They have enough length and athleticism to keep James in check as a scorer and rebounder. I project 24 points and six rebounds, so I see value in this Under at DraftKings when this line is as low as 30.5 at BetMGM.
