The 2024-25 begins in under a month, and we've had a full array of betting markets for quite some time.

Included among those - and seemingly earlier than ever before - are the NBA Finals MVP odds. Most of our best NBA betting sites have this market up and updated ahead of the season. There's value for bettors willing to look that far ahead.

This market is tightly correlated with the NBA championship odds, and even the NBA Cup odds.

And their are several notable differences against the NBA MVP odds

NBA Finals MVP odds favorite 2025

Jayson Tatum (+800)

This is a good market in which to bet into the favorites. The Celtics are the NBA Finals favorites, Tatum is among the NBA MVP favorites, and his NBA Finals MVP odds were considerably shorter than this when last year's postseason began.

These odds will quickly shorten if the Celtics assert their dominance early and often once the NBA season begins - as they did from the jump last year.

My NBA Finals MVP candidate to watch

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+900)

With Boston in good shape to return to the NBA Finals - although I do like the New York Knicks, but fear their health - I think the best way to go when betting this award is to focus on the Western Conference.

Unless you want to back Tatum or Brown, going with the MVP candidate on the team in the West you trust most seems like the smart play. For me, that's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Last season was ultimately a disappointment with a second-round exit in six games against the Dallas Mavericks, but OKC was the No. 1 seed in the West for a reason. This team is just hitting its stride with so many talented young players.

Between SGA, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and Lu Dort, the Thunder already looked like a serious contender. Now they add Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein, too.

If the Thunder can reach the NBA Finals, SGA is poised to pop off. He was third in the league in points per game last season (30.1) and second in steals (2.0). Plus, he's coming off an impressive performance for Canada in the Olympics, even if the team fell short of the podium.

Oklahoma City is built to make a title run, and Gilgeous-Alexander is the heart and soul of the team. A $10 winning bet on SGA pays a $100 profit.

How to bet on NBA Finals MVP

NBA Finals MVP odds are a way for sportsbooks to set the probability of a specific player winning the MVP award for the NBA Finals. These odds represent the sportsbook's estimation of a player's likelihood to be named the NBA Finals MVP based on various factors such as performance, team success, and historical trends.

The odds for each player are determined based on a combination of factors, including their regular-season and playoff performance, team success, historical trends, public opinion, and betting patterns. Sportsbooks adjust the odds throughout the series based on the players' performances and other relevant factors.

The shorter the odds, the more likely the player is to win the award in the eyes of the sportsbooks. If a player is +260 to win NBA Finals MVP, that means they have a greater chance of winning it than a player that is +1700. However, a bet pays out more if the odds are longer.

It's important to note that odds are not a guarantee but rather a representation of the sportsbook's estimation of the probability of a particular outcome. Different sportsbooks may offer slightly different odds, so it's advisable to compare odds from multiple sources to find the best value.

How to read NBA Finals MVP odds

Reading NBA Finals MVP odds involves understanding the implied probability and potential payouts associated with each player's odds of winning the Finals MVP. NBA Finals MVP odds are typically presented in American odds.

These use plus and minus symbols to indicate underdogs and favorites, respectively. For instance, if a player's odds are +500, a $100 bet would result in a $500 profit if the player wins, while odds of -200 would mean that a $200 bet is required to win $100 in profit.

When reading NBA Finals MVP odds, lower odds indicate that a player has a higher probability of winning the award, while higher odds suggest that a player is considered less likely to win. Bettors should consider factors such as a player's performance and narrative appeal when evaluating NBA Finals MVP odds.

It's also important to compare odds across different sportsbooks to identify the best value bets. Additionally, bettors should keep in mind that Finals MVP odds can fluctuate throughout the year based on player performance, injuries, and other factors, so staying informed and monitoring odds changes can be crucial for making informed betting decisions.
