After starting the season 12-12, the 76ers have rattled off seven consecutive wins and are on the verge of picking up their 20th of the season. Christmas Day marks their first game away from Philadelphia since December 5.

Earlier this month, the New York Knicks rattled off eight straight wins. However, they have lost two in a row, both at home, leading into their Christmas Day matchup with the 76ers.

The 76ers opened as 3.5-point favorites, but that line has dropped as low as 1.5 at some of our Best NBA Betting Sites. As of Sunday morning, the consensus line has the 76ers favored by a bucket, but this line could continue to shrink to what would essentially be a pick‘em by tip-off

The total opened at 219.5, and it has dropped to 214.5. The 76ers gave up 114 points to the Los Angeles Clippers in their last game, but they hadn’t given up more than 110 in their four prior games. The Knicks have held five of their last 10 opponents under 100 points.

Being that these two teams were so evenly matched with the 76ers missing their two best players, it may seem like Philadelphia at -2 is a no-brainer play. Yet, the NBA schedulers did the 76ers no favors by having them play their first road game in three weeks at Madison Square Garden on December 25.

Therefore, rather than playing the spread, the total offers the best value in this game. The Knicks have the league's eighth-best offensive rating, but they are just 14th in scoring, averaging 114.5 points per game. They are 24th in the league in field goal percentage, shooting just 45.9% from the floor this season, and they could struggle against a 76ers’ defense that is second-best in the NBA in points allowed, averaging 107.6 points against per game. 

The 76ers do have a healthy Embiid and his league-leading 33.0 points per game scoring average; however, the rest of the team should struggle against a defense that is third in the league in opponent field goal percentage.
