Shohei Ohtani arguably wasn't facing the most ideal matchup to add to his absurd home run total on Tuesday while continuing to chase history.

But as is so often the case with Ohtani, that mattered so very little. He blasted his 48th round-tripper, drawing even with his stolen base total.

He now needs just two more in each category to create his own exclusive 50/50 club. However, the Dodgers still lost a high-scoring contest 11-9 to the Miami Marlins.

There are 12 games remaining for Ohtani to reach the sky-high milestone.

He's already cemented himself as the MLB MVP odds runaway favorite in the NL, and Ohtani can keep helping to firm up his team's position atop the World Series odds.

As we turn our attention toward our Dodgers vs. Marlins prediction for Wednesday, Los Angeles still holds a 3.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the NL West.

Dodgers to win (-182) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: | Implied probability: 64.52%

The Dodgers are always well-positioned to win a slugfest given the strength of their offense, though they couldn't quite pull that off on Tuesday despite scoring nine runs.

The offense likely won't need to do the same heavy lifting with rookie Landon Knack on the mound.

As so many have before him, Knack struggled to navigate his way through an injury-plagued though still threatening Atlanta Braves lineup his last time out. The result was an ugly five earned runs over just two innings.

However, he gave up a far more modest seven runs over his previous 19 1/3 innings across four outings, three of which included three or fewer hits allowed.

At minimum, he's positioned to effectively limit a weak Marlins offense that ranks 28th in run production, clearing the way for Ohtani et al to do their ball-punishing thing against a pitcher returning from a long absence.

Ryan Weathers was impressive at times earlier this season while posting five outings with one run or fewer allowed, including three shutouts. He also hit double-digit strikeouts during a start twice, and the hurler successfully limited the long ball while giving up only eight homers across 71 innings.

However, returning from a prolonged absence due to an injury is exceedingly difficult for pitchers at the best of times. And doing it against the Dodgers is very much the worst of times.

Weathers hasn't logged an MLB start since June 7, when he left early due to a finger issue that's kept him off a big-league mound until now. He's looked like himself during rehab starts, but Weathers may still be limited during his first post-injury MLB outing.

That would allow Ohtani to tee off on a 19th-ranked Marlins bullpen that continues to limp along.

Prediction: Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 total bases ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sure, it didn't matter much on Tuesday, but despite the team's overall weakness and a poor bullpen, the Marlins' pitchers do a fine job of suppressing home runs.

That's especially true of Weathers, who logged an HR/9 of 1.0 over his 13 pre-injury starts.

And even though it deals with woes elsewhere, the Marlins' bullpen has surrendered the fourth-fewest dingers in the majors this season.

So although being conservative isn't as fun as watching history made, relying on Ohtani to hit the Over on this total bases mark from Betway is the wiser play.

This has become an easy mark for Ohtani to clear, making him nearly matchup-proof as far as this prop is concerned.

When he does record a hit, the slugger is typically doing it with full power. He's cashed the Over here eight times over 15 games in September, which includes six multi-hit affairs.
