Masters prop bets explained

Welcome to the Super Bowl of spring.

Annually, the Masters breaks down the door and stomps right in with its unparalleled mythology and charm. It’s an event on the calendar that sports bettors have circled all year long.

Our best sportsbooks will be flush with prop markets for prospective bettors, and there are ample opportunities to take advantage of the available betting markets.

Masters hole-in-one props

The hole-in-one prop for the Masters is a simple two-way market with a Yes and No side.

There are four par 3s at Augusta National:

  • Hole No. 4 - Flowering Crab Apple (240 yards)
  • Hole No. 6 - Juniper (180 yards)
  • Hole No. 12 - Golden Bell (155 yards)
  • Hole No. 16 - Redbud (170 yards)

There have been 34 holes-in-one in Masters history, 24 of which have come at No. 16. Only one ace has occurred at No. 4.

Famously, Padraig Harrington and Kirk Triplett aced No. 16 on consecutive shots during the final round of the 2004 Masters.

had odds for each individual player to record a hole-in-one during the 2024 Masters; the shortest odds available were the +6000 on Scottie Scheffler.

At bet365, there was a simple Yes/No market on whether any player would record a hole-in-one during the tournament. For the second year running, the "No" cashed.

At BetMGM, you could bet on any player to record a hole-in-one on a specific hole or during a specific round, while FanDuel had markets available for multiple holes-in-one to be made by the entire field throughout the 2024 Masters. These one-sided markets would have all been graded as losing bets with no one hitting a hole-in-one this year.

Winning nationality props

Nationality props have risen in popularity across regular PGA Tour events, but they're never more intriguing than they are during the Masters and the other three majors.

Quite simply, these markets break down the field and the outright betting market to look solely at selected nationalities or geographic regions. All you need to do is pick the golfer who'll finish with the best score among his peers. Odds are often much lower than the outright market as the player pool is considerably reduced.

At DraftKings and some of our other sites with the best sportsbook promos, you could bet on top American (Scottie Scheffler, +260), European (Ludvig Aberg, +700), Great Britain & Ireland (Tommy Fleetwood, +500), Canadian (Corey Connors, +125), Asian (Byeong Hun An, +800), Continental European (Aberg, +360), South American (Joaquin Niemann, -225), Spanish (Jon Rahm, -330, and Jose Maria Olazabal, +5500), Rest of the World (Niemann, +550), Danish (Nicolai Hojgaard, -105), Oceania (Cameron Smith, +210), Korean (Byeong Hun An, +275), and Nordic (Aberg, +130).

At bet365, you can also bet on the winner's nationality, choosing from just three options - USA, European, or the Rest of the World. With Scottie Scefflers' victory, the USA cashed at -160.

Masters cut line props

Sportsbooks will post Masters projected cut odds early in the tournament week. Top individual golfers will have their own odds for whether they’ll make the cut, and there will also be Over/Under markets for the cut number.

The Over/Under total through bet365 was 148 for the 2024 Masters, with the Over priced at +350, the Under trading at -150, and the exact score trading at +250.

Masters playoff props

If two players are tied after 72 holes of play, they'll head to a playoff to determine the tournament victor. At DraftKings, you could bet on whether there will be a playoff at all and, if so, how many players will participate in the showdown. Scheffler won by a comfortable four strokes, so the -500 price on the "No" won while the number of players in the playoff wagers would have all been graded as losers.

The Masters required a playoff in 17 of its 88 editions. It’s a sudden-death format, and the last time there was a playoff needed to determine the winner was in 2017 when Sergio Garcia defeated Justin Rose with a birdie on the opening playoff hole.

Wire-to-wire winner props

Winning a golf tournament wire-to-wire means the same golfer led the tournament following each of the four rounds of play. There have been five wire-to-wire winners at the Masters. The wire-to-wire winner prop is either a two-way market with Yes and No sides or a one-way market, depending on the sportsbook.

Bryson DeChambeau led the 2024 Masters after the opening round but was unable to hang on to win the title. Scheffler had the shortest odds to go wire-to-wire at +2800.

Masters course record to be broken props

The 18-hole record at the Masters is 63 (minus-9) set by Nick Price in 1986, and then matched by Greg Norman 10 years later in 1996.

Rory McIlroy shot 64 during the final round of the 2022 Masters. It was the lowest 18-hole score of the tournament, and the lowest-single-round score since Jason Day, Tony Finau, and Patrick Cantlay all carded 64s during Round 3 of the 2019 Masters.

Dustin Johnson set the 72-hole record in 2020 with a four-round score of 268 (minus-20). However, it’s definitely worth noting the 2020 Masters was held in November, and not April.

Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth have combined for the second-lowest, 72-hole score at 270 (minus-18), and they respectively posted their score in 1997 and 2015.

Masters double eagle props

A double eagle is also known as an albatross, and it’s a three-under-par score on a single hole. For example, carding a hole-in-one on a par 4 or holing out with the second shot on a par 5.

There have been four double eagles in Masters history, that figure did not change in 2024.

DraftKings and BetMGM had opened markets on whether a double eagle - or Albatross. These prices include the full field and full run of the tournament.

Winning score props

The winning score prop is an Over/Under bet on a total set by oddsmakers ahead of the Masters. DraftKings has the winning score total at 275.5, with the Over priced at +100 and the Under trading at -120.

Sportsbooks also have props for what the margin of victory will be, this year four strokes paid out at +350.

First-time-winner props

Three golfers have won the Masters in their first appearance. However, it’s important to note that two of those players won in the first two Masters tournaments in 1934 and 1935.

Fuzzy Zoeller is the last debutant to win in his first Masters appearance in 1979.

Because it’s proven so rare for an Augusta National rookie to win the Masters, bettors are often better off exploring the betting market for Top Debutant. There have still been numerous impressive debut finishes over the past 20 years.

First-round props

The first-round leader is determined following the first round of play, and the golfer with the lowest 18-hole score is the winner. It’s a popular market in all tournaments because though the best player will often win over four rounds, there’s far more variability over just 18 holes of play.

Sportsbooks will post odds similar to the outright winner market. When betting this market, it's important to consider the first-round grouping and tee times, and to keep any eye on the local weather forecast. Teeing off amid the better weather conditions is a major factor in this market.

Bryson DeChambeau captured this prop with a 7-under opening round which was split between Thursday and Friday due to weather delays.

Masters prop betting tips

We all love the Masters because Augusta National is a true test: It’s fair, it’s gettable, and it’s absolutely ruthless all at the same time.

There’s a reason the same players score well year in, year out. And it’s not that it takes a particular skill set to be successful. Every aspect of the game needs to be clicking to conquer the nuances of Augusta National, and course knowledge and experience is invaluable.

After all, nine of the past 11 winners played in at least three Masters before donning their first Green Jacket.

Additionally, a quick peek at the recent winners and successful finishers at the Masters reveals a list of golfers who’ve typically headed to Augusta in solid form. They’ve also almost always had recent success at another major championship.

Statistically, I value strokes gained: around-the-green far more than in any other tournament. With Augusta also dubbed a second-shot course, I’m also heavily weighing SG: approach.
