Two teams with interim head coaches meet in the Cure Bowl, and the Ohio Bobcats are 4.5-point favorites over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

  • Ohio’s Tim Albin left to take the Charlotte head coaching job, while Jacksonville State’s Rich Rodriguez filled West Virginia’s coaching opening
  • Both these teams avenged losses from earlier in the season to win their conference championships
  • Ohio has won 10 games in three straight campaigns

Our Ohio vs. Jacksonville State player prop picks for the Cure Bowl back a player to score multiple touchdowns, and we make our best plays on a running back and a wide receiver. Meanwhile, Rob Paul is supporting the underdog in his college football picks against the spread.

Our college football bowl game opt-out tracker has you covered with the latest opt-out news and the impact on the college bowl game odds.

Ohio overcame the loss of its six all-conference players last offseason to win the team's first MAC championship since 1968. That includes former quarterback Kurtis Rourke, who led Indiana to its first College Football Playoff appearance.

That speaks volumes not only of the job Tim Albin did in keeping the program afloat, but to the talents of dual-threat quarterback Parker Navarro.

Navarro accounted for four total touchdowns (two passing and two rushing) in the MAC Championship Game. He's also logged more rushing scores (15) on the season than passing touchdowns (12).

Brian Smith, the team's offensive coordinator, will coach the Bobcats in the bowl game, and I expect him to lean on his best offensive threat.

After scoring one or fewer rushing touchdowns in eight consecutive games to start the season, Navarro has posted multiple rushing touchdowns in four straight. He'll finish the season with a fifth.

The best odds for this wager are at BetMGM, as that book's +195 price trumps the +135 odds at FanDuel on the other end of this market. A $10 winning wager would return a payout of $29.50 for one of your college bowl game predictions.

Tre Stewart is one of two players to rush for 1,600-plus yards and average more than six yards per carry. The other is Heisman Trophy odds runner-up Ashton Jeanty.

Stewart was a two-time 1,000-plus-yard rusher entering this season, and he's surpassed this total in seven of his last nine games. The tailback has also run for 200-plus yards three times this campaign, so I wouldn't put anyone off a bet on his alternate rushing total.

Ohio is the only MAC team to allow fewer than 100 rushing yards per game. But Jacksonville State’s unique ability to threaten defenses with its quarterback’s legs (Tyler Huff has registered 1,343 rushing yards) should open up running lanes for Stewart.

FanDuel is alone among our best sportsbooks while offering this over at less than -115 odds.

Chase Hendricks Under 42.5 receiving yards ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: -115 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 53.49%

If I wanted positive involvement with anyone in the Ohio passing game, it would be Coleman Owen. He's tallied eight of the team’s 14 touchdown catches and more than double the amount of receiving yards compared to his next closest teammate.

But Ohio doesn't employ a heavy passing attack, as Navarro averages 167 passing yards per game.

Hendricks has stayed Under this total in three of his previous five games, and he's finished with two or fewer catches in five outings this season.

With Jacksonville State ranking 12th nationally in scoring (36.7 points per game), I expect Ohio to lean on its ground attack even more to limit possessions and refrain from getting into a shootout with the Gamecocks.

Under backers are getting a great number at BetMGM, as the line here is as low as 39.5 through bet365.
