A new era of college football has arrived. The first 12-team College Football Playoff will begin with four first-round games, including:

  • Indiana at Notre Dame, 8 p.m. ET on Friday
  • SMU at Penn State, Noon ET on Saturday
  • Clemson at Texas, 4 p.m. ET on Saturday
  • Tennessee at Ohio State, 8 p.m. ET on Saturday

Not only does the new format lead to the eventual national champion earning its crown, but it also gives bettors more to wager on.

On that note, here are my favorite College Football Playoff player prop bets for the first round: The below picks are part of our college bowl game predictions

Best CFB player prop bets this week

Omar Cooper Jr. Over 29.5 receiving yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Indiana receiver Omar Cooper Jr. could have a more significant workload than expected against Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore. USC targeted Moore 10 times, and I expect opposing teams to continue testing the true freshman on the biggest stage.

Averaging 21.1 yards per reception, Cooper can clear this prop on just two receptions. He has finished with at least 30 receiving yards in nine of his 11 games this season, including 97 yards over his last two outings.

This line has climbed from 28.5 at Caesars, so I’m happy to take this below 30 yards ahead of kickoff.

Antonio Williams Over 4.5 receptions (-128)

Best odds: -128 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 56.14%

Clemson’s Antonio Williams led the team with 71 receptions this season, averaging 5.4 catches per contest. Williams has recorded at least five receptions in six straight games. Over that span, he’s averaged 9.6 targets per contest.

I’ll bet on that workload in a game where Clemson might need to throw the ball a bit more than usual to stay within striking distance against Texas. This line is as high as -145 at bet365, but a winning $10 bet at FanDuel will profit $7.81.

College Football Playoff touchdown predictions

Harrison Wallace III anytime touchdown (+210)

Best odds: +210 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 32.26%

Penn State should have more success through the air against SMU, which made me want to check the anytime touchdown odds on tight end Tyler Warren. Unfortunately, he’s -150 to find the end zone.

Harrison Wallace III, PSU’s top receiver, has a much better price despite only scoring two fewer touchdowns than Warren on the year. And Wallace has scored twice in the past three weeks.

I give Wallace a 39% chance of scoring on Saturday, suggesting a slight edge at his current anytime touchdown price. A winning $10 bet will profit $21.

Emeka Egbuka anytime touchdown (+155)

Best odds: +155 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 39.22%

The final first-round CFP matchup could be the best, as there is plenty of star power between Ohio State and Tennessee.

OSU receiver Emeka Egbuka, who will enter the NFL Draft next spring, is my favorite touchdown bet. He ranked second on the team with nine receiving touchdowns this year, and there were only three Big Ten games where he didn’t find the end zone.

I’ll bet Egbuka will score against the Vols as long as the implied probability of his anytime touchdown odds remains below 40% at our best college football betting sites. A $10 bet would net a $15.50 payout at his current value.
