The Miami Hurricanes have struggled mightily this season as they head into a big road matchup against the Clemson Tigers in Week 12. Check out our top Miami-Clemson college football picks.

Clemson’s shot at a College Football Playoff berth has all but evaporated given its loss to Notre Dame and the Tigers’ soft ACC schedule. But to maintain any hope to take advantage of potential chaos, No. 9 Clemson has to handle Miami on Saturday.

Here are our Miami-Clemson college football picks for Week 12 (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Miami vs. Clemson ATS Pick

Clemson -19 (-110) ★★

Nothing from Miami’s recent performances would indicate the U is keeping this thing close on Saturday. The Hurricanes lost their last battle against a ranked opponent, 45-3 against Florida State two weeks ago. And that game was at home.

The Hurricanes are 2-8 ATS on the year, tied with Stanford and Colorado for the worst mark in FBS. Miami’s 3-3 conference record and 5-5 mark overall has been a mirage. Its strength of schedule is 91st in FBS. The Hurricanes’ four FBS wins have all come against teams outside the top 80 in FPI.

Of course, Clemson has won only three games by this margin, and all were against opponents far lower in the FPI rankings than Miami (No. 63). The possibility of a letdown for Clemson given it has already wrapped up the ACC Atlantic keeps my confidence in this play low; however, it wouldn’t feel good to invest into this version of head coach Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes group, either.

Miami vs. Clemson O/U Pick

Over 47.5 (-115) ★★★

As suggested by the Over/Under line, the oddsmakers seem to believe that Clemson might not be all that motivated for this game. The Tigers have scored 34.2 points per game this season, but in a home environment, the sportsbooks place their team total in the low-30s.

That seems on the surface like it’s too low given Miami’s defense has allowed 45 points three different times this season—to Florida State, Duke, and even Middle Tennessee. But Miami’s defense has also allowed 14 or fewer points to its opponents in three of its last five games as sort of an all-or-nothing situation going on in the southern portion of Florida.

I predict that this week falls somewhere in between. Clemson’s rushing offense is averaging 186.0 yards per game and should have a solid day on the ground. We prefer the FanDuel line and the less favorable odds rather than DraftKings’ offering of Over 48 (-110), as 28-20 or 38-10 are plausible outcomes to avoid on the push.

Miami vs. Clemson Prop Pick

Miami team total Over 13.5 (-125) ★★★

I don’t know that the Tigers have it in them at this point in the year, with the CFP winds essentially out of their sails, to put on a defensive clinic against the ‘Canes.

Miami doesn’t have to do much to clear its team total of just 13.5 points at FanDuel. The Hurricanes have finished above this total in eight of 10 games this season. Clemson hasn’t held a team below this total at home since a 35-12 win over FCS Furman early in the year. Every FBS opponent Clemson has faced at Memorial Stadium this season has scored at least 16 points; the Tigers have simply lacked that killer instinct.

I don’t prefer the DraftKings line for this prop, which has the Over on Miami’s team total at even odds, but on a line of 14.5 instead of 13.5.
