The 11-2 Jackson State Tigers battle the 9-2 South Carolina State Bulldogs in the Celebration Bowl.

The Jackson State vs. South Carolina State early picks and predictions point toward a very close game.

The Tigers are favored by 1.5 points at most of the best sports betting sites, as the two teams prepare for a noon ET (ABC) meeting at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 

These teams enter Saturday’s game on huge winning streaks, as the Tigers have won eight in a row and the Bulldogs have won seven.

This game has all the makings of a shootout. The Tigers have scored at least 41 points in four of their last five games, and they’ve scored at least 30 points in 10 of 12.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have scored at least 53 points in back-to-back games, and they’ve scored at least 30 in six of their last eight.

With both of these teams averaging more than 35 points per game, it will come down to which defense can make a stop.

Though both defenses have been solid this year, the competition disparity at the FCS level is immense. The Tigers are allowing just 18.1 points per game, while the Bulldogs are allowing 20.9.

However, both defenses have been exploited this season, and against the best offense either has faced, they won’t be able to make enough stops to keep this Under the total.

This is the first bowl game of the season, so I expect the public to be all over it. With how explosive these offenses have been this year, the Over is likely to be a popular bet, even though we don’t have enough betting evidence to support that right now.

Still, if you’re on the Over, get in as soon as possible.

Three of the four offering a moneyline for this game have the Tigers listed at -120 and the Bulldogs set at +100. FanDuel has a slightly better price for the Bulldogs, while also offering -125 for the Tigers.

With this being a matchup between two FCS teams, there isn’t a lot of betting information available.

Therefore, I expect bettors to go based more on “feel” throughout the week, which will prevent this moneyline from moving too far in either direction.

Spread

  • Jackson State best odds: -1.5 (-110) via BetMGM
  • South Carolina State best odds: +2.5 (-110) via FanDuel

Three of the sites with the best sportsbook promos have this spread set at 1.5.

However, FanDuel has it set at 2.5, and it's asking the same -110 for both teams as every other sportsbook.

There haven’t been enough wagers to determine which side will see support from the public. That said, it’s interesting to see FanDuel as an outlier right now.

This could lead to bettors backing the Tigers at -1.5, as they feel they’re getting a deal from the other sportsbooks. If this happens, all of the best sportsbooks could be at 2.5 before long.

Over/Under

All of the best live betting sites agree about the total and price. As I already said, I expect this number to climb before kickoff as both teams are averaging over 35 points per game.

Though the defenses are giving up fewer than 21 per contest, these two teams have allowed at least 30 points a combined five times.
