NC State opened as 20-point home favorites but has seen the number fall to -18.5 (-105) at FanDuel and -18 (-115) at DraftKings. At the time of this writing, 60% of the money wagered on the spread has been for Boston College.

The total opened 42 and has dropped slightly to 41.5 (-104o) at FanDuel and 41 (-110) at DraftKings, despite 58% of the money wagered going on the Over.

NC State -18 (-115) ★★★

20 points were probably too many to lay in a game with such a low projected total, but now that the line has moved slightly toward the Eagles, NC State feels like a value. BC is 0-4 ATS in road games this year. The notion of that offense, averaging just 11.75 points per road game, doing much of anything against NC State’s 15th-ranked scoring defense seems virtually impossible.

The Wolfpack have allowed just 19.6 points per game on the season, only twice allowing more than 21 points in a contest. Their offense is No. 78 efficiency in FBS. But Boston College’s 107th-ranked offensive efficiency is a genuine threat to be shut out here.

The Wolfpack scoring to their normal average against a team that has allowed 38 points per road game defensively this season is likely. The notion of a push in a 25-6 or 27-9 final keeps us locked into DraftKings’ spread of -18 over FanDuel’s line of -18.5.

Both BC and NC State have had their games go 4-5 on Overs this season. Boston College has scored 15, 14, 15 and three points in four road games this season. The Eagles achieved a low-water mark when they mustered just three points in a loss at UConn two weeks ago. 

A Wolfpack defense ranked No. 22 in defensive efficiency is going to cause significant issues for a team that couldn’t produce more than a measly field goal against UConn’s No. 92 defensive efficiency in its last road contest.

NC State has cleared 22 points just once in its past five games, coming in the Wolfpack’s most recent affair in which it scored 30 points in a win over Wake Forest. It would take more scoring than that from NC State to carry the load in pushing the total Over.

The trends don’t add up for Boston College’s offense to make anything happen on Saturday in Raleigh. Though this team total comes in a shade under BC’s season average in road games, the NC State defense represents far and away the toughest the Eagles will have faced on the road this season.

Boston College’s best scoring output on the road is 15 points. NC State allows fewer than 20 points per game across every opponent it has faced, and of those opponents, only UConn has a worse offensive efficiency than Boston College. And again, UConn, a very bad team, just held Boston College to three points.
