As one of the last unbeaten teams in the FBS, Army has defied expectations en route to the best FBS mark against the spread. The Black Knights are 7-1-1 ATS while posting an average ATS margin of plus-10.1 (sixth in the FBS).

Outside of the infamous home loss to Northern Illinois, the Fighting Irish have been running roughshod over opponents, going 7-2-1 ATS on the campaign. But this massive spread feels like an underestimation of Army’s quality.

No, Navy is not Army

It would be a mistake to glance at Notre Dame’s 51-14 win over Navy and assume that Army would suffer the same fate due to the service academies’ stylistic similarities.

FPI’s overall adjusted efficiency ranks Army 11th in the nation, only narrowly behind Notre Dame (sixth). Meanwhile, Navy sits 38th in the metric.

Army allows just 71.4 rushing yards per game, and only one ball-carrier has eclipsed this 73.5-yard rushing line against them all season. While Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is capable of explosive outings on the ground, he hasn’t been doing that consistently.

Love has cleared this rushing mark just twice in his past seven games. Averaging only 11.4 rushing attempts per outing, Love may require outlier volume to cash this Over given that Army has bottled up opposing rushers while containing them to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry.
