We might not have word yet on how our best sports betting sites did in Virginia for October, but we've got word on the casino market there, and it's largely positive.

Virginia doesn't have real-money online casinos, but it's three land-based casinos generated $57.0 million in revenue in October 2024, a from the Virginia Lottery has revealed. The figure marks a year-on-year increase of around 14.9% compared to $49.6 million collected last October. Revenue was also up around 0.7% month-on-month.

Slots dominated, contributing $42.3 million towards the monthly total. Virginians have the choice of more than 3,100 slots across the three venues. Meanwhile table games like blackjack, roulette, and poker accounted for the remaining $14.8 million. The three casinos house 150 table games, 85 of which are at Rivers Casino Portsmouth.

Virginia casinos have yet to pass their $65.1 million revenue record set in March 2024.

The report revealed that the casinos contributed $11.5 million in taxes to the state’s Gaming Proceeds Fund in October. Approximately 6-7% of the tax is allocated to the casino host cities, resulting in around $3.7 million in contributions for October. Around $92,313 was donated to the state’s Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund, which receives a 0.8% share. The Family and Children’s Trust Fund receives 0.2% of the total tax, amounting to $23,078 in October.

A strong month for Rivers Casino Portsmouth 

Rivers Casino Portsmouth continued to lead the state’s revenue. In October, the casino collected $25.4 million, accounting for almost 45% of the overall total. Caesars Virginia took second place, generating $18.2 million, while HR Bristol followed behind with $13.4 million.

All three casinos saw revenue increases compared to last October, with Rivers Casino reporting the largest growth of 26.9%. Rivers Casino Portsmouth was also the only venue to report an increase in revenue compared to September. This casino collected 5.0% more revenue than in September, driving the state’s monthly growth.

About Virginia casinos

HR Bristol was the first of the three venues to open in the state, making its debut in July 2022. The state gained a second casino in January 2023 with the launch of Rivers Casino Portsmouth, while Caesars Virginia opened its doors in May 2023.
