Legal wagering in Ohio is off to a torrid start.
The state launched its legal sports betting market on Jan. 1, and sports betting platform provider Amelco confirmed it went live with its products that same day.
Amelco, a company operating out of the UK, provides a comprehensive end-to-end online sports betting platform. The supplier said it registered over 11 million transactions in Ohio over New Year’s weekend alone.
Amelco is one of the first sports betting platform providers to go live in the newly active Ohio sports betting arena, a market that already touts 16 of the best sportsbooks in the market – including Caesars, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, PointsBet, and Barstool Sportsbook.
Where else is Amelco live?
Shortly after launching in Ohio, Fanatics confirmed that it will leverage Amelco’s source code to power its sports betting product, a partnership that was announced during Fanatic’s hearing in early January to receive licensure in the new Massachusetts sports betting market.
Amelco has also provided the code for a number of international online sportsbooks and several US mobile sportsbooks as well, including WynnBet and FOX Bet.
Specific to the Fanatics partnership, Amelco will provide the player account management system and online sports wagering system for Fanatics’ online sports betting product. Amelco also became the second provider to enter the Arkansas sports betting space in 2022 after the state went live last March.
It partnered with Saracen Casino to power the BetSaracen mobile sports betting app which helped the casino become one of the first operators to establish state-wide sports wagering in Arkansas. With the latest launch in Ohio, Amelco is now live in 15 states across the U.S. and hopes to continue its expansion with more jurisdictions this year.
Fanatics also looking to continue U.S. expansion
The partnership with Amelco is just another example of Fanatics’ push into the sports betting landscape in the United States.
The Fanatics Sportsbook at FedEx Field became the first retail sportsbook to be located inside an NFL stadium when it began taking bets during the NFL Divisional Round in January.
Fanatics has long held intentions to enter the sports betting world, and its moves in 2023 are certainly helping to make those intentions a reality. In addition to its launches in the Ohio and Maryland sports betting markets, Fanatics also received a mobile sports betting license from the on Jan. 12.
This gives the company the chance to release its sportsbook offering ahead of the formal launch of online sports betting in Massachusetts, which is expected to go live in March (although retail sports betting in Massachusetts just launched on Jan. 31).
