After the Utah Jazz traded center Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves, it appeared that the Jazz might focus on building around star guard Donovan Mitchell, but that might not be in the cards either, as the Jazz have been talking to the New York Knicks about a potential deal for Mitchell.

Mitchell will be 26 before next season, has averaged more than 20 points per game in each of his five NBA seasons, and has put up 26.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 44.4% from the field and 36.8% on threes over the past two seasons. He’s a premier scoring guard with suspect defensive impacts.

Mitchell has three years and more than $97 million remaining on his contract, with a player option for 2025-2026 that is worth more than $37 million.

Here are the latest next team odds for Donovan Mitchell on DraftKings.

New York Knicks (-200)

The Knicks are heavily favored to acquire Mitchell because he is from Elmsford, New York, which is part of the New York Metropolitan area. The Knicks are also desperate to add a star and might be willing to part with major pieces to help ignite the Jazz’s rebuilding plan. If the Knicks manage to keep R.J. Barrett out of the deal, they could still send the likes of Obi Toppin, Cam Reddich, Immanuel Quickley, and Evan Fournier to the Jazz, with a massive haul of draft picks to get the deal done. The expectation that this could require four or five first-round picks should give the Knicks pause because that’s a huge price to pay for a scoring guard with questionable defensive play.

Miami Heat (+400)

The Heat have been lurking around any of the big names available this summer, including Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Mitchell. The Heat could base a deal around Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson, with more prospects and picks going to Utah as well. Miami might also be better positioned to add Mitchell and support him with better defensive players.

Utah Jazz (+550)

Considering Mitchell is under contract for at least three more seasons, the Jazz have all kinds of leverage. They don’t have to deal Mitchell now, though when trade talks get made as public as this, that does tend to lead to a parting of the ways. In any case, if the Knicks or Heat are not willing to step up their offer for Mitchell, the Jazz could very easily go into next season with Mitchell as the focal point of their team and wait for the offers to improve.

Brooklyn Nets (+1000)

The Nets are already in a complicated spot this offseason, dealing with potential trades involving Kevin Durant and/or Kyrie Irving. Ben Simmons’ future remains up in the air, too, so he could even be part of a package sent to Utah for Mitchell, but if the Nets are interested in remodeling their roster with a New York kid in a starring role, there could be something to be worked out between the Jazz and Nets. For this deal to happen, though, the Nets would likely need to sort out at least one piece of the Irving or Durant trades, so they have some idea what assets they would be getting in return and could then potentially flip to Utah.Make sure to keep an eye on our Live Odds page throughout the week to get the best lines possible and connect with others in the SBR community on our popular sports betting forum
