Iowa's July 2024 sports betting and casino financials revealed mixed results. While some of our best sports betting sites had a great month, it wasn't all sunshine.

The  revenue reports saw Iowa sports betting post a year-over-year increase in handle and revenue. In contrast, casino gaming revenue experienced a slight decline compared to June 2023.

The figures

The revealed that around $146.7 million was wagered on sports in the Hawkeye State during June, up 20.7% from last year’s $119.1 million. However, it was a month-on-month decrease of 19.6% from May 2024 as the spring/summer slowdown hit. Iowa sports betting apps accounted for $136.7 million of this total handle, while retail venues collected the remaining $10 million. In partnership with Crown IA Gaming, DraftKings led the internet gaming handle with $53 million, followed by FanDuel with $33.7 million.

The two behemoths combine to produce some of our top Iowa sportsbook promos.

With $134.2 million paid out in winnings, Iowa operators collected $12.5 million in net receipts for June 2024, which marks a 15.9% rise from the $10.7 million collected in June 2023.

Casinos

According to the , Iowa’s 18 land-based casinos and one riverboat casino generated over $140.7 million in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) from slots and table games, a slight 0.7% decrease from the $141.8 million reported last June and down 5.4% from the $148.8 million collected last month. Iowa residents do not have access to real money online casinos.


Slots contributed $127 million, while table games contributed $13.7 million. Total admissions reached 1.4 million, up 0.9% year over year.

June 2024 saw Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino report the highest AGR of $19.3 million, followed by Ameristar II with $15.55 million and Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs with $15.47 million.
