Australia’s Annabelle Codey attended an independent Disciplinary Committee hearing having received a red card as a result of two yellow cards in Australia’s WXV 1 match against England in Wellington on 20 October, 2023.
The independent Disciplinary Committee was chaired by Nigel Hampton KC (New Zealand), joined by former international players Ofisa Tonu’u (New Zealand) and Ollie Kohn (Wales).
The player accepted the red card.
The Committee noted that no findings of fact are required as the sanctioning is not for the substantive offences relating to each yellow card, but for the “offence of persistent offending” as set out in Appendix 4 to Regulation 17.
Given the repetition of the same offence within the match, a two-week entry level was decided upon. The player was given full mitigation reducing the sanction by the maximum 50 per cent to one match.
The player will miss Australia’s next WXV 1 match against France on 28 October, 2023.
The player has the right of appeal within 48 hours of the issuing of the full written decision, which will appear here once published.
