Mississippi betting apps
Surprisingly, Mississippi still hasnāt green-lit mobile wagering despite offering retail sports betting in nearly 30 locations across the state. The stateās largest casinos insist they believe in online betting long-term, but all four bills introduced in 2022 were promptly scuttled and mobile wagering was indefinitely put on the shelf.
The 2024 legislative session has brought renewed optimism towards potentially legalizing sports betting in Mississippi. Rep. Cedric Burnett has introduced two identical bills in HB 271 and HB 365, which could launch mobile sports betting from anywhere within state lines as soon as July 1st.
When Mississippi does welcome online sports betting, the top sportsbooks in the U.S. will be lining up to gain access. That list will be as long as it is illustrious, and will almost certainly include top-shelf options like FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM and DraftKings.
Mississippi promos and bonuses
The emergence of mobile sports betting in Mississippi will mean plenty of bonuses and offers for anyone making wagers within state lines. We encourage everyone to maximize their bonus and offer exposure, since many of these first-time inducements result in real cash landing in sports bettorsā accounts, with little playthrough required (for the most part).
When (or if) Mississippi does finally usher in online betting, watch out for potentially lucrative bonuses from some of the best sportsbooks in the business:

How to bet in Mississippi
Choose your sportsbook
When online sports betting arrives in MS, you can consult our top list for the best sports betting options available to you. Our interactive list will allow you to sort sportsbooks based on a number of criteria, including banking options, bonuses and quality of customer service.
If youāre looking for more information before making your choice, be sure to check out our detailed, unbiased reviews for each of the top sportsbooks in Mississippi once online sports betting arrives. This is especially important if you want to understand how each bookās bonus offers work.
Register online
Registration requirements will vary slightly by sportsbook, but most follow the same protocols. Be sure to have your personal information (name, address, phone number) and credit card details (number, expiry date, CVV) handy.
Deposit and claim your bonus
Once youāre comfortable with how your sportsbookās new signup bonus works, it will be time to make your initial deposit and claim that sweet bonus. The majority of first-time offers for Mississippi residents should come in one of two forms:
- Bonus bets: This offer gives you a second shot on your first wager if it is graded as a loss. The sportsbook will refund your initial bet amount (up to a specific limit) as site credit if it loses. In some cases, a sportsbook will issue bonus bets even if your first bet wins.
- Deposit match: This offer sees the sportsbook match your initial deposit dollar-for-dollar, though there are two caveats. The deposit match will come with a maximum limit, and in the majority of cases you will be required to āplay throughā your initial deposit by a certain multiple in order to earn the bonus.
Select and finalize your bet
Congratulations! Youāre ready to place a wager. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the app interface before diving in. Most mobile operators make it easy for new sports bettors to navigate, but itās still a good idea to know where everything is.
From there, you can place any type of wager you like; the most popular bet types are the moneyline, spread or total. You can also dive into team or player props, or even kick things off with a futures bet.
Once you have the desired wager(s) in your betting card, take one last look to ensure youāve made the selections you want. If everything is good, simply click the āBetā button ā and youāre off!
Mississippi legal sports betting history
Mississippiās sports wagering history is a tale of two races: One in which the Magnolia State was ahead of the pack, and another in which it continues to lag behind.
Hereās a look at Mississippiās sports betting history:
2017: Sports Betting Legislation Arrives
A bill aimed at legalizing daily fantasy sports (H 967) had a much more significant impact than it had intended. While the bill primarily focused on the framework for legal DFS, it also altered provisions in the Gaming Control Act of 1972 ā specifically, those that dealt with the prohibition of sports betting.
The bill passed, giving Mississippi the authority to not only allow daily fantasy sports, but to also permit sports betting if the federal government ever repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act.

2018-19: Mississippi Acts Quickly
The impact of that 2017 DFS bill became a major factor the following year, as the Supreme Court overturned PASPA in May. Mere hours after the repeal, lawmakers had regulations in place for the presence of legal sports betting.
It took just 30 days after that for the Mississippi Gaming Commission to begin offering sports wagering licenses to casinos. And on August 1, Gold Strike and Beau Rivage made history as the first two Mississippi casinos to offer legal sports betting.
Mississippiās expediency paid off ā literally. By getting legal betting in place ahead of the 2018 NFL season, the state took in $157 million over its first five months of operation; that number grew to $369 million in 2019 as more casinos jumped into the fray.
2020: Online Sports Betting Bill Lags
With retail sports betting humming along, it only made sense for Mississippi lawmakers to look at adding online wagering to the stateās offering. And thatās what Democrat Cedric Burnett had in mind when he filed Bill HB 172 in January.
The bill would allow every Mississippi casino to offer mobile sports betting that players could use anywhere in the state, rather than from only inside the building. But the bill didnāt get past committee before the March 3 deadline, effectively taking mobile sports betting off the table for 2020.
2021-22: No Online Wagering Approved
Lawmakers redoubled their efforts to bring mobile sports betting to Mississippi. But a pair of bills (SB 2732, HB 1042) that would have made online betting legal across the state donāt make it past committee early in the year.
Undaunted, lawmakers pushed several more sports betting bills into the legislature from the latter stages of 2021 into the early weeks of 2022. All four of them would have allowed for mobile sports wagering outside casinos ā and all four promptly died in committee, dashing any hopes for online betting before 2023.
Responsible Gaming in Mississippi
Like most states, Mississippi has put safeguards in place to ensure that bettors have a way out of any potential trouble spots.
The Mississippi Council on Problem and Compulsive Gambling is the stateās main resource for players who seek help. It provides access to Gamblersā Anonymous and references to additional gambling resources and counseling services.

- NCAA Basketball
- MLB
- NHL
- Golf
- Auto Racing

That doesnāt leave much off the table, but there are three major markets in which wagering in Mississippi is prohibited:
- Politics

Growth of sports betting 📈
When the U.S. Supreme Court repealed PASPA in 2018, the growth of legal sports betting in the United States skyrocketed. Close to three dozen states have since legalized some form of sports betting, with the most common legislation including the licensing of online sportsbooks and mobile betting apps. Check our legal sports betting tracker to find out more about any state you're interested in.
Over the past few years, large states like Ohio and Massachusetts have enjoyed massively successful online betting launches. Sports fans get an extra way to engage with their favorite teams, and the states earn plenty of much-needed revenue from licensing fees and taxes.
More recently, legal North Carolina sports betting arrived on March 11, 2024, bringing eight of the best sportsbooks in the country to the Tar Heel state. And with events like the Copa America and Euro 2024 soccer tournaments happening all Summer long, the excitement and opportunities for sports betting enthusiasts continue to grow.
